Yes, a calamitous climate catastrophe is clobbering us. But not so very long ago it was just change... even a subtle change. Therein lies the root of the problem. Each of us evaluates change within the context of our own time on the the planet.

Younger people will say, yeah sure, it's different, but not that different... Older people who have seen a bigger slice of the spectrum of change will see it as somewhat more serious. It is only people who examine the nature of the problem over a longer span of time, longer than their own life, who will get a sense of how serious the problem is.

It is my judgement that we crossed the Rubicon a long time ago... Long before I was born. I repeat, it is my judgement, and I sincerely hope I'm wrong,

The problem is not simply that there are too many people... and there are... WAY TO MANY... But perhaps even worse, we are doing too too many things... Technology has advanced too far. How do you talk to a young couple who has a 5-year-old, a 2-year old, and an infant about this. They are trying to make a good life for their progeny. Their hopes are high. How do we explain that we need to give up basic things like... oh, I don't know... our cars, our refrigerators, electric lights, etc. etc??? They will scoff at us.

Mal lets out a big sigh... Trudges off... Ears drooping... Tail dragging... Finds his favorite spot under the bush out back... scrapes around under the bush a little to fluff it up... lies down for a nap...
