You pretty much nailed the root of the entire problem in the title of your article. Very few people consider a time-span that is much outside the bounds of their own lifespan. I have written several articles about this problem. Unfortunately, I have concluded that we (the human species) crossed the Rubicon (the point of no return) long ago.
